For the entire month of February I’m covering black-owned businesses to celebrate Black History Month. Today I feature Noirbnb, a “global travel community that provides experiences and events with a focus on including and celebrating travelers of color.”
What Is Noirbnb?
Noirbnb is a travel & accommodations agency and a direct competitor to Airbnb. It works similar to Airbnb meaning you can search for places to stay in different cities and in different countries.
According to its founder, Stefen Grant, he created this company in October 2015 after an “experience while booking a stay in Atlanta” using Airbnb. Thus, the idea to create a better experience for people like himself was born.
Like many discoveries today I found the service using social media. I follow Stefen’s Twitter account and he would tweet about his company. In addition to being the founder of the website, he’s also a successful realtor in Miami, FL and is the founder of another company.
Seeing individuals create a product or services when they see gaps in the market is awesome. The black travel community is here and continues to grow. According to recent reports, blacks spent about $110 billion dollars in 2019 in leisure travel in the U.S. alone! I expect that number to continue to rise.
However, this agency isn’t just for black people as anyone can use it. Stefen’s purpose for the website is to give individuals additional avenues to find travel, events and/or accommodations they probably wouldn’t find on other websites.
